Mang Ariel's siomai franchise

  Back in the 60's I have known a story of a man named "Mang Ariel" I met him at his office in Ortigas when I was still working at that same place.While I was waiting for him at his office, his secretary gave me a cup of brewed coffee and a biscuit to be entertained while I wait for his presence. I saw his achievements hanging from every corner of the office wall some of these were "best assistant manager" certificate and  many trophies separated in one cabinet. Since my eyes is exploring for new things, I can't help but notice that one picture on his table that looks very old and it was about a life he had then. They wear rugged clothes eating root crop inside a bamboo made house and I think it was a his family picture. He came from a very poor ancestors which I learn while taking a glimpse in that old picture. And now at last, he came and we shook hands with a warm greeting "Good morning Sir Ariel" "Good morning too, he replied." He gave me seat and I gave the siomai products that he ordered. After talking to him for 30 minutes, I was amazed by his story that he was once a cook, a liason officer, became a driver and many to mention but to make it short, he is very industrious. He owns several siomai franchise business in his town and he runs his own company of being the ceo event manager.

   I was happy talking to these kind of persons and I really take the chance to know how they were then and became today. It inspires me to learn more than what I know today to make new things imagining the bright future and make some good steps in everyday that I do to achieve that preview in my mind. I never thought making money out of siomai and he just did!

   Working for someone is really cool for you satisfy his needs by selling your time lol! Kidding aside, I was a corporate slave then at Makati Philippines and my siomai franchise business idea started while I was walking dead 3 years ago tired in and out. I began to dream and wish that I have my own business like my boss and create a small system that I own. Step by step one at a time, I studied how this franchise system works and according to experience it is not the system you should rely to for success but yourself. Based on my experience, putting up a business is really a great risk  but it will always  depend on your high or low investment. It is better to make an occular investigation first before building your business store and check if the foot traffic is okay. If you think it is fair enough, then make a decision to start and grow your business there and fight to survive. Be wise in choosing your location and be prepared if someone imitates your firm. I remember when I put up my first courageous siomai food cart along the wet and dry market here in the Philippines.  I was shocked, that after staying there for nearly 2 months competitors emerged everywhere and my sales got lower! but after that incident of what everyone is saying that it is a "healthy competition" you must do something right away before all of your income is gone. Preparation is the most important thing to do which includes you making a wide view for what's coming or what will happen in the future. Good locations are commercial sites we're different people pass by. These includes:  students, employees, residents in the area  and other office  workers.

Here are some tips to help you maximize your revenue with your location:
  1. Try to find a corner lot location this is a long time proven spot for business owners to make good profit
  2. Check if you have a business competitor and try to be creative how to make your trade standing out from others
  3. Always have a plan b in mind these will make you a better problem solver whether is this money or unusual situations that you never expect would happen
  4. Make your place attractive  to customers people like visuals they know what is a good look and a bad look for this can make your profits higher.
  5. Be friendly taking care of your customers and make them like your services which is the main essence of your purpose. You'll be amazed that you want to see the same person buying and nothing at your place

Greatest Street Food of all Time


I have been wondering around after school to look for "the price is right food" and I always stumble to have siomai as my hunger stopper here in the Philippines. I must admit that I have a tight budget to keep all the expenses paid like the jeep ride, the bus ticket, lunch and some other school supplies. To save the day, I always prepare a packed rice to bring at school to lessen my payable and to save a certain amount of money everyday. We live in a average income and so my parents always remind me that money is hard to get and I must be responsible in helping them and helping myself to survive daily. Luckily in some classes, we were thought on how to cook and make siomai which gave me an idea to share this to my mom and try making a profit out of it. It is very simple to do you just need a wanton wrap, a pork meat, some seasonings and of course a steaming equipment.

People in the Philippines work hard to survive and one of the best techniques they do is to sell food because everyone is hungry after work including other activities that burns our energy.     The main reason why this food is very well known it is because it is delicious, affordable and very convenient to eat anywhere you are. I can eat 8 to 10 pieces of this and will smile for the whole afternoon until the sun sets lol! It satisfies the masses that need a fast way to eat while they are rushing about going to schools, offices, or just wondering for something to ease the stomach demands. Some construction workers tend to have a packed rice and just look for siomai, toyo and calamansi and they are already fulfiiled with happiness. The most delicious delicacy type I tasted was in Ongpin in China town, where it is freshly prepared before they steam it and they don't put stock on refrigerators as this may ruin the flavor as said by the Chinese chef. Well, it is really tasty and different from the one I have tried but I just think it is more expensive since that place was a highly renowned restaurant let's just call it "Hap Chan." I love you siomai forever!
